Direct flights from Islamabad to Madinah
PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) is the main airline flying non-stop between Islamabad and Madinah. Frequencies are limited, usually a few flights a week, and PIA adds capacity during busy pilgrimage periods. Because direct seats are limited, they are often the first to sell out in Ramadan and school holidays.
You'll see different airline lists on different travel websites. Some show Airblue or Saudia on the route, others don't. Schedules on this route change from season to season, so always check live availability for your exact date rather than relying on old listings. On ApnaTicket, the search shows only flights that are actually bookable on your date.

Connecting flights: more choice, often better prices
When direct flights are full or expensive, a one-stop journey can be a smart alternative:
- Via Jeddah or Riyadh: fly to a Saudi hub, then take a short domestic flight to Madinah. Saudia has the widest domestic network. Travellers flying to Riyadh can also look at our guide to Riyadh Air flights from Pakistan.
- Via Dubai: flydubai and Emirates connect Islamabad with Madinah through Dubai.
- Via Doha: Qatar Airways offers one-stop connections with generous baggage.
Tip: on a connecting itinerary, check the layover time and make sure your baggage is checked through to Madinah. Elderly pilgrims usually find a direct flight, or a single short connection, much easier.
Why start your Umrah in Madinah?
Most Pakistani pilgrims fly into Jeddah and go straight to Makkah. Starting in Madinah has real advantages:
- No Ihram on the plane. Madinah is not crossed on the way to Makkah from this direction, so you don't need to wear Ihram on the flight. You put it on later at the Miqat of Dhul Hulaifah (Masjid Abyar Ali) just outside Madinah, when you set out for Makkah. That's much more comfortable, especially for first-time pilgrims, children and older family members.
- A gentler start. Madinah is calmer than Makkah. Recover from the journey, pray in Masjid an-Nabawi, and prepare spiritually before performing Umrah.
- Easy onward travel. The Haramain high-speed train links Madinah with Makkah in roughly 2.5 hours, and buses and private transport are also available.
- Smart open-jaw tickets. Fly Islamabad → Madinah and return Jeddah → Islamabad, so you never have to travel back across the country for your flight home.

Islamabad to Madinah ticket price
Fares depend heavily on the season and how early you book. As a rough guide from recent public fare listings:
- Off-peak, booked early: one-way economy fares from around PKR 75,000–90,000 on the cheapest available options.
- Busy periods (Ramadan, Rabi ul Awwal, school holidays): fares rise significantly and direct seats can sell out weeks in advance.
- Return or open-jaw tickets often give better overall value than two separate one-way tickets.

Best time to book
- Normal Umrah dates: book 6–8 weeks ahead for the best balance of price and choice.
- Ramadan (especially the last 10 days): book 3–4 months ahead. Direct ISB–MED seats are limited and go first.
- Cheaper periods: the weeks right after Umrah restarts following Hajj, and quieter months away from Ramadan and school holidays.
- Hajj blackout: Umrah is normally paused for ordinary visitors for several weeks around Hajj. Don't plan Umrah travel for that period.
Umrah checklist for Islamabad–Madinah travellers
- Passport valid for at least 6 months, plus a valid Umrah or tourist visa for Saudi Arabia.
- Nusuk app: Umrah permits and visits to the Rawdah in Masjid an-Nabawi are booked through Saudi Arabia's official Nusuk platform. Book Rawdah slots early.
- Ihram packed in your hand luggage, ready for Dhul Hulaifah when you leave Madinah.
- Baggage allowance: check it on your fare, especially for the return trip with Zamzam and gifts.
- Hotel near the Haram: book early in peak season. Prices follow flight demand.
Arriving in Madinah: from the airport to the Haram
Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport is modern and compact, so arrival is usually quick compared with Jeddah's busy pilgrim terminals. After immigration and baggage:
- Taxis and ride-hailing apps are available outside arrivals for the 20–30 minute ride to the hotels around Masjid an-Nabawi. Agree the fare first, or use an app for a fixed price.
- Hotel and group transfers are the easiest option for families. Most Umrah packages include them.
- The Haramain train station is close to the airport, which makes connecting onward to Makkah simple later in your trip.
- Local SIM cards are sold at the airport. You'll need mobile data for the Nusuk app and navigation.
Tip: if your flight lands late at night, book your first night's hotel in advance and arrange a transfer. Madinah stays busy around the Haram at all hours, but the airport taxi queue can be long when several pilgrim flights arrive together.
Places to visit in Madinah
Alongside your prayers in Masjid an-Nabawi, most pilgrims visit Madinah's historic sites (ziyarat):
- Masjid Quba: the first mosque built in Islam. Praying two rak'ahs here carries great reward.
- Mount Uhud and the Martyrs' Cemetery, the site of the Battle of Uhud.
- Masjid al-Qiblatain, where the direction of prayer was changed towards the Kaaba.
- Jannat al-Baqi, the historic cemetery beside Masjid an-Nabawi.
Plan at least 3–4 days in Madinah so you can pray comfortably in Masjid an-Nabawi, complete your Rawdah visit and see the main ziyarat without rushing.
